Nearly thirty thousand motorsport fans headed for this year’s Race Retro event at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire to browse the stalls, watch the live rally stages or even have a go at driving a classic rally car themselves. Now in its tenth year, Race Retro has firmly established itself as one of the country’s premier classic motoring events.
Check out our gallery below, where we got up close with the classic cars that took part in this year’s live rally stage. There were some incredibly talented drivers showcasing their skills in a wide range of great looking machines.
The numerous giant halls were filled with literally hundreds of stalls, offering every conceivable item relating to classic motoring, and outside HERO (the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation) offered visitors the chance to impress their friends with their driving skills by completing a couple of laps around a specially laid out circuit in a range of their Group A and Group B rally prepared classic vehicles, including a Mini Cooper S, Alfa Romeo GTV and a Triumph TR6.
As well as some exquisite motors, also present at the event were a number of motorsport legends including Sir Stirling Moss and Murray Walker, who were interviewed live at the event and happily signed autographs for their queues of fans afterwards. Murray Walker said “This is my first time at Race Retro and I’m so impressed, not only with what the show has to offer, but the passion of the enthusiasts attending. I’ve had a wonderful time meeting some of my dear old friends that I never thought I’d get to see again. In the immortal words of General Douglas McArthur, ‘I shall return’.”
For those who wanted to take away something more than a few spares or accessories, Silverstone Auctions also held a sale of fantastic vehicles that was sure to have at least one or two lots to tempt all motoring enthusiasts.
If you missed out on this year’s event, make sure you keep an eye out for next year’s dates!
